New Medical Centre
Client: Port Skin Clinic
Address: 259 Oxley Highway, Port Macquarie
Contractor: Tim Sales
Structural Engineer: David Johnson
Completion: Summer 2019-20
The project involved the demolition of a badly maintained residence to make way for a new medical centre on a busy arterial link road into Port Macquarie.
The client was looking to provide Port Macquarie with an up-to-date skin clinic to provide cancer and cosmetic surgery. The centre has consultant rooms, a medical procedure room with pathology and sterilisation room. The cosmetic suite has a cosmetic consulting room and a cosmetic procedure room. The centre includes all associated administration, staff rooms and ablutions.
Windows were considered problematic for the consulting rooms as daylighting is inconsistent, so most rooms have no windows, instead having dedicated artificial lighting for consistent colour rendering etc. This meant that that natural daylighting was considered essential for the common areas, which resulted in generous widows and clerestory windows to the main reception, entrance, corridors, and staff rooms etc.
