A state of the art suite of consultation rooms, assessment rooms, procedure room and operating theatre built over two stages. Close consultation with the client, Drs Mulligan, Thompson and Game, joined later by Dr Hopley, involved careful analysis of patient flows and needs, consideration for visual comfort, lighting levels, also resulting in dedicated waiting rooms close to functions.
The Eye Centre uses numerous hi tech diagnostic machines which were carefully measured to understand the ergonomic characteristics and space requirements to ensure economic utilisation of building space. The ophthalmologists also had different consultation preferences and requirements, which resulted in two different consultation types.

The project also involved resolution of numerous technical requirements, medical gasses, theatre lights, operating and the control of daylighting. Daylight was deemed to be the “enemy” making the placement of windows critical with screening devices and blinds giving variable control.
A 65kw photovoltaic array has been installed on the roof, with solar hot water, water storage tanks and water detention to mitigate rain events.
